Cerebral Pathology in Subarachnoid Haemorrhage.

چکیده

Subarachnoid haemorrhage due to ruptured intracranial aneurysm is very common but there have been few reports of the pathology in brains of fatal cases. The work which has been done has largely been concerned with the distribution of clots and macroscopic infarcts (Robertson, 1949; Wilson, Riggs, and Rupp, 1954; Crompton, 1962). Tomlinson (1959) comments on ischaemic lesions observed macroscopically and histologically but only in the territory of the aneurysm-bearing vessel. Robertson (1949) and Birse and Tom (1960) mention cases in which ischaemic changes were found outside that territory. The present study is confined to the brains of patients dying from the consequence of subarachnoid haemorrhage without significant cerebral disruption or intracerebral clot. Of 30 brains examined macroscopically, only eight fulfilled these criteria, three from patients who were not operated on and five from patients who had undergone various surgical procedures. The brains were investigated by embedding large blocks in low-viscosity nitrocellulose, nine blocks being taken from each brain.

Comparative Efficacy of Meloxicam and Placebo in Vasospasm of Patients with Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Cerebral vasospasm considered to be a serious cause of morbidity and mortality following subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH).Despite several available therapeutic options, current protocols do not prevent major consequences of vasospasm. Inflammation is believed to play an important role in post-haemorrhagic vasospasm. Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The aim of this study was to...

Erythropoietin in vasospasm. From bench to bedside?

Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage is one of the most deleterious acute neurological diseases. The cerebral ischemia secondary to arterial vasospasm occurring after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage is still responsible for the considerable morbidity and mortality in these patients. Besides the knowledge of basic mechanisms of cerebral vasoespasm following aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage...

ANATOMIC CORRELATION BE TWEEN INTIMAL PATHOLOGY AND CEREBRAL VASOSPASM FOLLOWING SUBARACHNOID HEMORRHAGE

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) resulting from a ruptured intracranial aneurysm can induce cerebral vasospasm with subsequent reduction in cerebral blood flow (CBF). The present study examines the pathological alterations in the wall of human cerebral arteries at autopsy, especially with regard to intimal pathology, following aneurysmal SAH. Arterial segments from the circle of Willis were fi...
